1. Dr. Marie-Anne David (post-doc, 1993-1995, from University of Rennes, France)

2. Dr. Ivan Kovacik (post-doc, 1997-1999, from Australian National University). Now at Pharm-Eco Labs (now Johnson Matthey Pharma Services) in MA.  Update 2017: Ivan has recently moved to Keryx Biopharmaceuticals in Boston. Update 2023.  Ivan has moved back and forth in Boston-area pharma, now at Alnylam Pharma.

3. Dr. Yi Han (post-doc, 2000-2001, from Columbia University). Now back in NY.

4. Dr. Tim Brunker (post-doc, from University of Oxford, England). Tim taught at Holy Cross, Worcester, MA, then Boston University, and in fall 2008 begins a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry at Towson University (Maryland).  As of 1-10 Tim has a 3-year endowed chair position!  See the press release here.  Update: Tim is now an associate professor with tenure.  His web page is here. Update 2020: Tim is now teaching at Harvard as a preceptor.  Update 2023: now Tim is at Tufts as a lecturer.

5. Dr. Liliana Miinea (materials post-doc, from University of Houston) is now at Mallinckrodt Baker in New Jersey.  Update 2013, Liliana has moved to Lubrizol Advanced Materials (the former BF Goodrich) near Cleveland.

6. Dr. Marites Guino-o (post-doc, from Karin Ruhlandt-Senge's group @Syracuse University), now teaching at Oberlin College, Ohio.  Tess moved in summer 2010 to a tenure-track position at University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Here's her new home page, 2011.  Update 2016: congratulations to Tess on her tenure and promotion!
Update 2020: Tess is now a patent examiner at the US patent and trademark office.

7. Dr. Jorge Garduńo (post-doc, from UNAM, Mexico, Ph.D. with Juventino Garcia).  After a very productive 1.5 years in our group (2021-2022), Jorge is moving down the hallway to work with Chris Sandford. Update 2023: Jorge is moving back to Mexico for a faculty position at UAEM in Cuernavaca. Update 2026: Jorge is moving back to Mexico City for a faculty spot at UNAM.

1. Dr. Igor Kourkine (Ph.D. 1997, from St. Petersburg Institute of Technology, Russia). Igor did a postdoc with Chad Mirkin at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, worked in biotech with Annelise Barron in the Chemical Engineering Department at Northwestern, and is now associate director of Northwestern's Master of Biotechnology program.

2. Dr. Denyce Wicht (Ph.D. 1999, from University of Vermont). After a postdoc with Dick Schrock at MIT, Cambridge Massachusetts, Denyce moved to General Electric in New York and is now (2005) an assistant professor at Suffolk University in Boston.  Denyce received tenure in 2011!

3. Dr. Michael Zhuravel (Ph.D. 2000, from St. Petersburg Institute of Technology, Russia). Michael did a postdoc with SonBinh Nguyen at Northwestern and was also a postdoc in the Materials Science department there. As of 2004 he's got a real job at Dendritic Nanotechnologies in Michigan.  When that company died, he moved back to Northwestern for more postdoc (2011).

4. Dr. Liz Pelczar (M.S. 2001, from University of Hartford, Connecticut). Liz got her Ph.D. at Rutgers with Alan Goldman and moved on to UNC-Chapel Hill for a postdoc with Michel Gagne, then got a job at Innophos in NJ.

5. Dr. Jill Moncarz (Ph.D. 2001, from McGill University, Canada). Jill was a profesor at Marietta College in Ohio, then (summer 2003) at Penn, and (2004) is now a Six Sigma Black Belt at DuPont, Wilmington DE. Update 2016: Jill now works in sales for Chemours. Another update 2016, now at Eastman, also in sales.  Update 2020: Jill visited us just before the pandemic started.

6. Dr. Diana Stefanescu (Ph.D. 2004, from Bucharest Polytechnic, Romania) did a postdoc with Chris Gorman at NC State, then a postdoc at CalTech with Janet Hering in the Environmental Sciences/Engineering department. As of May 2007, she has a real job at Air Liquide in Delaware.  Now (2011) a research associate and instructor at Penn State.  Update 2014: Diana is now CEO at a small company near Penn State doing molecular modeling: rxffconsulting.com

7. Dr. Natalia Blank (Ph.D. 2005), from Novgorod State U., Russia) is an assistant professor at Norwich University in Vermont (start 2006).  Update 2011: Natalia has been promoted to associate professor with tenure! Update 2012: Natalia was on sabbatical in our lab.  Update 2017: Natalia is now associate provost at Norwich. Update 2021: Natalia has moved on to D'Youville College in Buffalo NY as VP, academic affairs. 
Update 2024: now Natalia has moved to Bay Path University in Massachusetts, again as VP, academic affairs.

8. Dr. Corina Scriban (Ph.D. 2006), from University of Bucharest, started a postdoc with Dick Schrock at MIT in summer 2006.  In 2008 she moved to Heidelberg, Germany, at CARLA, and moved to Cambridge England, 2010, to Johnson Matthey Catalysis and Chiral Technologies.  Update 2016: Corina is now a trainee patent attorney, still at JM.
Update 2020: Corina is a real patent attorney, now at Kilburn & Strode.
Update 2022: Corina has moved to Switzerland, doing patents for Givaudan.

9. Dr. Brian Anderson (Ph.D. 2008), from Skidmore College, NY, did a postdoc with Matt Sigman at the University of Utah, and is now (2009-10) a visiting professor at St. Lawrence University (NY).
Update! In 2011 Brian will begin as an assistant professor at Keene State College, back here in New Hampshire!  Here's his new Keene page.  Update 2016: Tenure! Way to go, Brian.

10. Dr. Tim Chapp (Ph.D. 2010), from St. Lawrence University, NY, is now a visiting assistant professor at Hamilton College, NY. Update 2012! Tim will start his new job as assistant professor at Allegheny College, PA, in the fall; new webpage here.
Update 2020: tenure! and department chair during COVID (challenging).

Tiffany Simons (2010-2011) from Ramapo College, NJ, spent one year at Dartmouth and is now back in NJ, teaching high school chemistry.

11. Dr. Matt Cain (Ph.D. 2011, from SUNY Geneseo), is a postdoc with Dick Schrock at MIT, starting January 2012.  Update 2014: Matt will start as assistant professor at Hawaii in summer 2014!  His Hawaii web page is here and better yet, here is his "synthesis in paradise" page.

12. Dr. Samantha Reynolds (Ph.D. 2012, from Winthrop U, South Carolina) is now an adjunct professor at UNH-Manchester, teaching organic chemistry, and an instructor at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS).  Update 2015: Samantha was promoted to lecturer at UNH-Manchester.  See the press release here.

13. Dr. Balazs Varga (MS 2013), from ELTE, Hungary, spent one year at Dartmouth, did a 1-year internship @Harvard, and returned briefly in fall 2013 to complete his MS thesis.  Update 2015: Balazs finished his Ph.D. at ELTE and is now doing research at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.  Another update: Balazs is starting a new job at a local research center for Viticulture and Enology in one of the main wine growing regions in Hungary.  2017 update: Balazs is now on LinkedIn.
2020 update: Balazs is back in the USA as a postdoc at Washington U, St. Louis, in clinical pharmacology. Update 2025. Same place, now a research scientist.

14. Chris Knarr (MS 2014), from Humboldt State University, California, is now in culinary school in Texas.  Update 2015: Chris is working as a pastry chef in Austin.  See his beautiful portfolio pictures here. Update 2016: Chris is back in chemistry education with Macmillan Learning working on their online platform Sapling Learning.

15. Dr. Matt Sanderson (Ph.D. 2015) from Abilene Christian U (Texas); MS from UT Austin with Chris Bielawski, now (fall 2015) a visiting assistant professor in Tennessee at the University of the South (Sewanee).
Update 2016: Matt is a MS student at the University of North Texas, department of Library and Information Sciences.

16. Dr. Ge Wang (Ph.D. 2016) from Lanzhou University, China.  Ge returned for graduation 2017, and is now back in China.  Update 2018: Ge's new job is technical support engineer at ExxonMobil Chemical in Shanghai.

17.  Dr. Perry Scheetz (Ph.D. 2017, from Bard College, NY).  Perry is now a process engineer at the clean energy company Bloom Energy in Silicon Valley. Update 2022, Perry is now a senior staff engineer.

18. Dr. Zhiming Xu (Ph.D. 2017, from Ocean University, Qingdao, China; MS from University of Dayton with Shawn Swavey).  Next: in Chengdu, China, doing catalysis and synthesis at the startup Xiling Lab.

19. Dr. Jake Muldoon (Ph.D. 2018), from SUNY-Stony Brook, will start a postdoc at the Naval Air Weapons Station in China Lake, California (Mojave Desert) in summer 2018.  What will he be doing there? Some green chemistry for polymers and fuels, but the rest is classified.
Update 2021: Jake has moved to Orlando, Florida.  Check out his "medicine -- beyond the science" podcast here.
Update 2022: Jake is now working at RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials)

20. Dr. Sarah Gallant (Ph.D. 2019), from the University of Maryland, is now a lecturer at Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont, about 1 hour away.  She joins Natalia Blank (#7 above) at Norwich.  Update 2021: Sarah is now a tenure-track assistant professor at Norwich. Update 2026: Sarah was already department chair as an assistant professor, and now she has been promoted to associate professor with tenure. Kudos!

21. Amber Zimmerman '19 (MS 2020) was our department's first 4+1 AB-MS student in chemistry (distinct from the continuing program in biological chemistry).  Amber is returning to Philadelphia for her new job at GSK (summer, 2020).  Update 2023: Amber is moving to DC for her job at the Foundation for the NIH.

22. Dr. Ryan Tipker (Ph.D. 2023) from Allegheny College, is moving back home to Pittsburgh to work as a formulation chemist at Ardex.  Update 2026: still in Pittsburgh, but Ryan now has a new job at Covestro.

1. Michael Chapman (B.A. 1993). Mike escaped from New Jersey and is now developing software for the gamma spectroscopy market at Canberra Industries in Meriden, CT. He's also a part-time student at Rensselaer's Hartford branch working towards a master's in computer science.
Sad news 2024, Mike passed away.

2. John Alexander (B.A. 1995). John received his Ph.D. from MIT with Dick Schrock (June 1999) and after a postdoc at Cornell with Geoff Coates, he is working in patent law in Boston at Novartis.  Update 2015: John was here for his 20th reunion!
Update 2022: John is now VP and head of intellectual property at Nimbus Therapeutics, Cambridge MA.

3. Sara Paisner (B.A. 1996). Sara got her Ph.D. with Bob Bergman at UC Berkeley, did a postdoc with Joe DeSimone at UNC-Chapel Hill, worked at GE, Niskayuna, NY, then went back to NC at Lord Corporation, before setting up her own consulting business. Update 2018: Sara is now president of Synoptic Products.

4. Ron Gregush (B.A. 1997). Now in medical school at Washington University, St. Louis.  Update 2012! Dr. Ron is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist near Seattle.

5. Matt Sargent (B. A. 1997). An art history grad student at Georgetown, Matt also worked in their chemistry department. Next, he will be a Ph.D. history student at Berkeley. 
Update 2014.  Now a postdoc at CalTech!
Update 2018: now an associate management scientist at Rand Corporation.

6. Navrose Grewal (B. A. 1999). Now in medical school at UCLA.  Update 2018. Dr. Navrose is a thoracic surgeon in California.

7. Michael Orchowski (B.A. '00) Mike got a job at Unilever in New Jersey, and will start law school in 2004.  Update 2012, now a lawyer in London at Sullivan and Cromwell.

8. Jeff Zimpleman (B. A. '00) was a grad student at Scripps with Dale Boger, then got his MBA at Cornell and entered the real world, working in finance.

9. Matt Colman (Dartmouth '01) was a consultant at the Parthenon group in Boston and started medical school at U. Chicago in 2003.  Update 2010: Matt is now a resident at U Pittsburgh Medical School in orthopedic surgery.  Update 2018.  Matt is a spine surgeon in Chicago.

10. Emily Nytko (Dartmouth '01) started grad school at MIT in 2003 with Dan Nocera. She is the happy recipient of an NSF graduate fellowship!  After MIT, she worked on patents in Washington DC and in 2011 is doing patents in London at Keltie, like this.  Update 2015.  Emily is now in patent law at BTG, working on medical devices.  Update 2018.  Still in patent law, now at Gill, Jennings and Every LLP.

11. Hillary Dunlevy (Dartmouth '01) was in Africa with the Peace Corps! Medical school back in Ohio (University of Cincinnati) is next; as of 2011 Hillary is at Penn for her residency.  Update 2018: Dr. Hillary is at the University of Colorado school of medicine.

12. Rachel Garaas (Dartmouth '02) was at General Electric in NY. Next stop, dental school at Harvard (2005).  As of 2011, Rachel is a dentist and oral surgeon in North Carolina.  Update 2018: Dr. Rachel's practice is now in Nashua, NH.

13. Yoji Kobayashi (Dartmouth '01) started grad school at Penn State with Tom Mallouk in 2003.  Next (2007), a postdoc with Jeff Long at UC Berkeley.  As of 2011, Yoji is an assistant professor at Kyoto University, Japan.  Update 2021: Yoji has moved to KAUST in Saudi Arabia!

14. David Lincoln (Dartmouth '02) learned about nuclear reactors, courtesy of the US Navy, and now (2007) is going to law school.  Update 2015: David is now a lawyer in New Haven after serving in the Navy JAG corps.  Update 2018: Lieutenant Commander Lincoln is still working as a lawyer, now in the Washington DC area.  2022: still a lawyer, now advising Verizon on drones and AI.

15. John Jewett (Dartmouth '03) is a graduate student with Viresh Rawal at U. Chicago.  Next (2007), a postdoc with Carolyn Bertozzi @ Berkeley.  In 2011, John starts his new job as an assistant professor at Arizona.  See his lab website (organic chemistry plus virology!) here.  Update 2017: John was back for a brief visit.  Update 2018: TENURE! Well done.

16. Chad Dooley (Dartmouth '04) was a grad student with Shana Kelley at Boston College and got his Ph.D. in 2009.  After a postdoc at Wisconsin, he is now (2011) a proud father and working at a company in Attleboro, Mass.  Update 2018: Chad is president of Deuterium IMS, a manufacturing company in Boston.

17. Omar Amir (Dartmouth '04) is an MPH student at Harvard. Check out his earthquake relief work in Pakistan here.  Now at Stanford medical school.  Update 2018: Dr. Omar is now working at the Real Medicine Foundation in Mozambique.
Update 2025. Omar is now at Mt. Sinai medical school in NYC. More info here.

18. K.C. McBroom (Dartmouth '05) will go to vet school and get a Ph.D at Colorado State.  Update 2015.  The plan seemed to work; KC is now listed as a PhD, DVM and a vet in Washington state.

19. Mitch Pet (Dartmouth '07) is in medical school at Washington U, St. Louis.  As of 2011, his next stop is Washington state, for a residency at UW, Seattle, in plastic and reconstructive surgery. 
Update 2018: Mitch is a plastic surgeon in Seattle.

20. Alex Rupert (Dartmouth '07) stayed here for the 2007 summer (Tuck Business Bridge program), and worked at JP Morgan in NYC (before the recession stopped that).  2012 update: Alex is working in finance in NYC @Taconic Capital.  2015 update.  Alex is now an MBA student at Wharton in health care management. Another update: Alex is done at Penn and moving to London for his next job.  Update 2018: Alex is an analyst at King Street Capital Management in London.

21. Andrew Lee (Dartmouth '08) is at Columbia medical school.  Update 2021, now a plastic and reconstructive surgery fellow in Boston.

22. Jeff Zhao (Dartmouth '08) is in medical school at Washington U, St Louis.  Update 2018.  Dr. Jeff is a psychiatrist in Massachusetts.

23. Liz Lane (Dartmouth '08, Beckman Scholar) started graduate school at the University of Chicago (fall 2008).  Now (2009) she is teaching high school chemistry near Boston, and in 2010 back to Chicago for another teaching job.  Update 2013: Liz will be back in grad school @Brown in the fall; 2014 in Wes Bernskoetter's group.  Update 2016: Liz moved with Wes's group to the University of Missouri to complete her Ph.D.  Update April 2018: after a successful thesis defense, it's now Dr. Liz, who will next be a postdoc at Ohio State with Christine Thomas.  Update 2019.  Ex-Buckeye Liz is back in New England, working at Cambridge Isotopes.

24. Adam Schoenfeld (Dartmouth '09, Beckman Scholar and Presidential Scholar) started medical school at UCSF in fall 2009.  Update 2015: now an internal medicine resident and tweeting about it here.

25. Ashley Zuzek '09 (Presidential Scholar) started graduate school at Columbia, with Ged Parkin, in fall 2009.  Update 2014: Ashley is graduating this summer and will move to Materia.

26. Youngmin Kim '12 graduated early and is back in Korea applying to medical school. Update 2013: Youngmin is now a medical student at Hanyang University School of Medicine, Seoul, Korea.

Chris Valleau '12 graduated in June and kept working in the lab over the summer of 2012.  November 2012: Chris has a new job as a research analyst at Independent Project Analysis near Washington DC.  Update 2016: Chris is in the Peace Corps in Tanzania!  Update 2019: Chris is going back to grad school in public health at Emory.  Update 2022: Chris is a spatial data analyst at Whitespace in Atlanta.

27. Cory Chang '13 will be teaching in Boston next year before going to medical school.  Update 2014: detour.  Cory will go to music school in Rochester, NY.  Update 2017: Cory is now in medical school at Columbia.  Update 2022: Dr. Cory is now a neurosurgery resident at Johns Hopkins.

28. Andy Zureick '13 is going back home to University of Michigan medical school, and tweeting about it here.  Update 2019: Andy is now a resident, still in Michigan. Update 2025. Andy is now a radiation oncologist at U Pittsburgh medical center

Jesse Peltier '14 is a chemistry Ph.D. student at UC San Diego, in Guy Bertrand's group.  Update 2016.  Jesse has already published 2 papers and won an NSF graduate research fellowship!  Update 2020: a Science paper, research in France, and almost done with his Ph.D., Jesse's next move will be a postdoc with Jeff Long at UC Berkeley.  Follow Jesse on Twitter @JesseLPeltier.
Update 2023: Jesse will move to Northeastern in Boston to start as an assistant professor!

30. Meaghan Deegan '14 is a chemistry Ph.D. student at CalTech.  She spent summer 2014 doing research in Jonas Peters' group and in 2015 has now permanently joined that group.  Update 2019: Meaghan is graduating and moving to U Delaware for a postdoc with Eric Bloch.
Update 2022: congratulations to assistant professor Meaghan, starting at Santa Clara University (California) this summer.

31. Haider Ghiasuddin '15 will be a Master's student at Harvard after graduation (Urdu and Persian poetry and its relationship to Sufism!).  Update June 2016.  Haider enjoyed his first year at Harvard, medical school is the next stop.  Update: Haider is back in Hanover for medical school @Geisel.

32. David Clemens-Sewall '14 will be analyzing the electric grid at DC Energy.  Update: DCS will be back in Hanover (and Antarctica) to do a master's degree at Thayer School of Engineering.  Update 2022: PhD at the Thayer School, with expeditions to the Arctic too.

33. Rebecca Xu '15 will be teaching chemistry in Boston (Teach for America) before going to medical school.  Update 2017: MD program at Northwestern.  Update 2021: resident at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Update 2024. Resident at Brigham & Women's hospital in Boston.

34. Dan Pham '16 will be a consultant in Boston next year at Parthenon-EY,
"committed to bringing unconventional yet pragmatic thinking together with our clients’ smarts to deliver actionable strategies for real impact in today’s complex business landscape," according to their LinkedIn page.  Update 2021, now at Charlesbank Capital Partners. Update 2024: Dan is in SF doing finance at Parafin.

35. Chase Shipp '17 will also be a consultant in Boston.  Update 2022: Chase is now in the Bay Area, still consulting, but may end up at medical school. Update 2024: Chase has started medical school at Hofstra in NY.

36. Jacob J. Jo '17 will be doing clinical research at UMass medical school, before applying to medical school himself.  Update 2019: JJ is going to Vanderbilt medical school! Update 2024: now a resident in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, in the same program as Cory Chang '13!

37. Lauren Mendelsohn '19 is starting a Ph.D. program at Princeton.  Update 2020: Lauren has joined Paul Chirik's group and already published her first paper. Update 2023. Lauren will graduate soon and move to BMS. Update 2024. Dr. Lauren finished her Ph.D. and is off to BMS soon.

38. Amber Zimmerman '19 will remain in Hanover as our first-ever 4+1 BA/MS student in chemistry.

39. Chris Connors '21 is applying to medical school.  Update 2022: he plans to attend Mt. Sinai med school, in NYC.

41. Andrew Sasser '23 will remain at Dartmouth as a Teaching Science Fellow for a year, before attending medical school.  Here he is receiving the department's Chandler T. 14. Ethan Emerson (Bates College, REU summer 2010) is back at Bates for his junior year.  Update 2012.  Ethan is now an analytical chemistry intern in the Bay Area.  Update 2015: Ethan is going back to grad school for his Ph.D....to Colorado State.

16. Derrick Marshall (College of Wooster '15, ASURE summer student 2014) has returned to Ohio for his senior year.  Update 2016.  Derrick is a MS student in polymer science at U. Oregon.  Update 2019.  Derrick worked in Oregon, at MIT, and is now at Amgen in Cambridge, MA.

17. Michael Tilby (Oxford '16, visiting summer student 2015) has returned to Oxford for Part II research with Michael Willis.  Update 2021: Michael has published several papers from his PhD work at Oxford in the Willis group.  Here is his ORCID page.
