Both honors chemistry majors got departmental awards. Andy received the Shafer-Bowen award for outstanding performance as an undergraduate teaching assistant, plus the venerable Haseltine chemistry-physics award (established in 1915!) for the most promise in those two subjects. Cory followed the group tradition (because catalysis is green chemistry) of winning the Stephen W. Wright '81 Pfizer Green Chemistry award for research which "best exemplifies the practice of 'Green Chemistry'.
April 2013 Success in the return of Youngmin Kim '12 to Korea, where she has just started medical school at Hanyang University in Seoul.
March 2013 Congratulations to several students:
¶ Ge's
departmental seminar on Pd-catalyzed direct couplings via C-H activation had no fresh bread (see below) but still
completed this requirement successfully.
¶ Jesse and
Meaghan received Zabriskie
fellowships for
research in summer 2013.
¶ Andy, Cory and
David got Zabriskie
fellowships to support their ongoing Chem
